Mezan Guyana 2011 is a traditional rum, distilled from sugar cane molasses. This rum was produced in Guyana at the Diamond distillery in 2011.
Bottled in 2022, this 11-year-old rum aged in Guyana for 3 years, then transferred to Europe for 8 more years.
Continental and tropical aging make this rum an exceptional rum, with as always no addition of sugar or colouring agent and no cold filtration.
Nose: Elegant with oaky spices, some apricots, peppery notes and some vanilla honey.
Taste: Balanced with some light oak.
Finish: Powerful, with flavours of five spices and dried fruits.
The cellar master of Mezan travels to the Caribbean in search of hidden treasures, these intact, unsweetened, uncolored and unfiltered rums. All Mezan rums are aged in old Bourbon casks until they reach their optimum level of maturity. Bourbon casks affect the final taste of the rum the least. The decision was deliberate, aimed at optimally preserving the particular identity and singular character of each rum. The rums are aged in two stages; first in the hot and humid climate of the tropics, then in Europe to complete the process. The second stage proves advantageous, because it causes less oxidation and avoids an excessive concentration of esters.
