Octomore 12.2 57,3%
OCTOMORE 12.2 continues the peat exploration with a phenol level of 129.7 ppm, in other words still powerful. This single malt only spent 3 years in first and second fill barrels of American oak, then finished its refining in first fill Sauternes wine barrels. Beyond the peated notes, it has a real touch of sweetness with honeysuckle, melon, white peach, and coconut. It was distilled in 2015 with 100% Scottish barley and bottled, non-chill filtered and without coloring.
It is a very limited edition.
Nose : Notes of melon, honey and smoked almonds at the start, then toasted oak, earthy smoke, pine resin.
Palate : Rich, soft and sweet, then fruit, lemon zest, vanilla pods, melon, a strong influence of Sauternes.
Finish : Salted citrus flavor, on oak and fruit with a nice earthy peated smoke.
THE BRAND
Bruichladdich is a whisky distillery built in 1881 by three brothers. It is located on the Isle of Islay on the west coast of Scotland. It is one of nine distilleries on the Isle Islay, but Bruichladdich is to date the only distillery to produce, age and bottle its malt on the island. Following its purchase in 2000, the Bruichladdich distillery was very carefully renovated, they managed to save almost all the original material dating from the 19th century. Its single malt is only very slightly peated, with distinct marine origins, an iodized scent and a palate of salty flavours. This distillery produces two specially peated versions : Port Charlotte and Octomore.
