To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its reopening, the Bruichladdich distillery introduces a new release in its limited collection “The Whisky of Mass Distinction Series”, with this fourth edition: Yellow Submarine III.
Limited to just 1320 bottles for the French market, this 14-year-old single malt is crafted from Appaloosa barley, grown exclusively in Scotland. It has been carefully matured using a distinctive cask combination: 75% French red wine casks and 25% first-fill bourbon casks, bringing balance, depth, and aromatic complexity.
This release belongs to Bruichladdich’s unique narrative universe, inspired by an unusual story. In the early 2000s, a military intelligence error reportedly classified the distillery as a potential site for weapons of mass destruction, giving rise to numerous legends surrounding the brand. In 2005, the discovery of a yellow submarine belonging to the Ministry of Defence off the coast of Islay by two local fishermen further reinforced this mythology and inspired the first “Yellow Submarine” release.
This whisky continues that legacy with a rich and complex expression, where each tasting evokes this unusual story and the mysterious atmosphere of Islay.
