GLENDRONACH 12-year-old Original 43%
Glendronach 12-year-old Original, is very rich, this whisky fully reveals itself in the sherry cask versions. It has a perfect balance between the notes of sherry, malted barley and fruits (red fruits).
Glendronach means "the valley of blackberries" in Gaelic. Located near the town of Huntly in the east of Speyside, this distillery uses traditional production methods (malting including partial drying over a peat fire, as well as heating the stills over an open fire), which explains much of the powerful character and strong personality of its single malt.
Nose : Mint flavoured toffee. Notes of sherry and vanilla as well as red fruits. It develops on fruit, quince and cooked apple. Point of exoticism. Gingerbread, it becomes more gourmet on fruit cake, chocolate and almond milk.
Palate : Still on red fruits, cranberries and blueberries. Tannic, coated in dark chocolate. On the spices. Sesame oil. Back to fruit and catechu, liquorice.
Finish : Fairly long and malty.
THE BRAND
The Glendronach Distillery is located on the edge of Speyside on the East Coast at Dronach Burn in the Deveron region. It was created by a union, led by James Allardice in 1826, having received the right to distill at the beginning of the 19th century thanks to the Duke of Gordon. The distillery has used the same distillation methods since the beginning of its activity, producing Single Malts aged in high quality sherry casks. Following numerous changes of ownership until it closed in 1996, until the owners of Benriach bought the Glendronach distillery in 2008, and thus started producing a peated single malt in small quantities.
