KILCHOMAN Ruby Port Cask Matured Edition 2024 50% with its case

KILCHOMAN Ruby Port Cask Matured Edition 2024 50%

€94.50

KILCHOMAN Ruby Port Cask Matured 2024 is a peated single malt whisky from Islay, fully matured in port casks. Unlike many distilleries that choose to finish their whisky in port casks, this expression has been exclusively aged in these barrels, making the maturation process more demanding. Anthony Wills, the founder of Kilchoman, emphasizes their commitment to standing out through an innovative approach to whisky maturation. While many focus on finishes, Kilchoman prioritizes complete maturation, which can lead to delightful surprises.

The distinctive character of Kilchoman pairs exceptionally well with experimental casks. The port casks, in particular, harmonize beautifully with the sweetness and citrus notes typical of Kilchoman, balancing the aromas of red berries and cinnamon derived from the barrels.

This new limited edition offers added depth compared to previous releases and is bottled at 50%.

THE BRAND

Founded by Anthony Wills in June 2005, Kilchoman is the first new distillery established on the Isle of Islay in over 124 years. Nestled near Machir Bay in the northwest of the island, it stands as one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland, yet it boasts a prestigious maturity. Kilchoman proudly sources about 20% of its barley from its own lands, supplementing it with malt from the Port Ellen malting facility.

Kilchoman is a family-run, independent business that has seen significant growth since acquiring Rockside Farm in 2015. The distillery began operations in December 2005, marking a new era for Islay whisky. Its unique approach includes using locally grown barley from Rockside Farm, which is also malted on-site, alongside malt from Port Ellen. This allows for a diverse range of whisky expressions, influenced by the origin of the grains.
One notable aspect of Kilchoman is its traditional floor malting method, a rarity in Scotland. The entire whisky production process—from barley cultivation to bottling—is carried out on the island, adding to its distinctive character.
Kilchoman produces approximately 100,000 liters of alcohol annually, utilizing a combination of bourbon and sherry casks for maturation. The distillery has built a strong reputation based on innovative methods and a commitment to quality, regularly launching limited editions that are highly regarded by whisky enthusiasts worldwide.
The first single malt from this modern distillery was released in 2009, and since then, Kilchoman has received numerous awards, symbolizing a return to traditional whisky-making practices.
Among its iconic releases is "Machir Bay," named after the nearby bay, known for its balanced flavor profile. Another well-loved expression is "Loch Gorm," a whisky matured in sherry casks, celebrated for its rich taste and deep color. "Sanaig," a blend of bourbon and sherry cask whiskies, offers a delightful combination of sweet and smoky aromas. Finally, "100% Islay" is notable for its production process, with every step occurring on the island, from barley cultivation to bottling.

KILCHOMAN

KILCHOMAN was founded by Anthony Wills in June 2005. For over 124 years, no new distillery had been established on the island of Islay, on the west coast of Scotland. Supplied by the Port Ellen maltings, it now strives to grow around 20% of its barley on its own land. Although it is certainly one of the smallest distilleries on the island, KILCHOMAN already enjoys a prestigious maturity.
