Founded by Ichiro Akuto grandson of the founder of the Hanyu distillery, Chichibu was founded in 2008. They store and manage the latest casks from the Hanyu distillery, and from the distilleries of Kawasaki and Karuizawa. They distil in two small stills heated indirectly by steam from the Scottish manufacturer Forsyths. They have stainless steel brewing vats but also Mizunara Japanese oak vats. Their bottlings go up to 12 years old for Chichibu and Ichiro's malt.
Ichiro’s Malt is a Japanese whisky brand founded by Ichiro Akuto in 2004. A descendant of a whisky-making family, he rescued casks from the closed Hanyu distillery and opened Chichibu Distillery in 2008 near Tokyo. Known for rare releases like the iconic “Playing Card Series,” Ichiro’s Malt stands for innovation, craftsmanship, and time-honored excellence. Each bottle reflects the precision and artistry of Japanese whisky making.
