Wolfburn Small Batch N°155
Wolfburn Small Batch Single Malt No. 155 was aged in first-fill bourbon casks, then finished for 6 months in hogsheads that had contained port wine from the Fonseca House. This combination brings us a rich, smooth whisky with marine influences. As a fun fact, it’s a nod to the placement of the casks in the distillery’s warehouses, warehouse No. 1 and row 55.
Nose: Dried fruits, vanilla, coffee, and dark chocolate.
Palate: Winey port, caramel, vanilla, and honey.
Finish: Smooth and warm, with a hint of iodine.
THE BRAND
The Wolfburn distillery was founded in 1821 by William Smith on the outskirts of Thurso. It disappeared around 1860. After 150 years of closure, the distillery was rebuilt in 2012 by Forsyths of Rothes, and Shane Fraser from Glenfarclas joined the team. Designed from the start to be efficient yet traditional, the distillery has no automation. From milling to bottling, everything is done by hand on-site with care and attention. Local ingredients are carefully selected, including mineral-rich water, slow fermentation, and gentle distillation to capture only the purest part of the distillate. A true work of craftsmanship. This spirit is reflected in the whisky: warm, smooth, and world-class.
