Founded in 1798 in the heart of the Orkney Islands, in the far north of Scotland, Highland Park has preserved a centuries-old whisky-making tradition that has earned worldwide recognition. The distillery is particularly renowned for maintaining its traditional floor malting process, a rare practice today, where part of the malt is still handled by hand using historic methods.
Highland Park’s distinctive identity is built upon the subtle balance of its locally sourced peat, which imparts a delicate, elegant and aromatic smoke rather than an intensely peated character. This hallmark style has shaped the distillery’s whiskies for more than two centuries and contributes to their instantly recognizable profile.
Maturation takes place in a carefully selected combination of sherry-seasoned and bourbon casks. Spanish oak sherry casks bring richness, spice and dried fruit notes, while American oak casks contribute sweeter flavours of vanilla, caramel and honey.

The Highland Park distillery is quite unique, placing great importance on both the people and the peat used in the production of its whiskies. For over 220 years, Highland Park has been drying its barley over peat that is over 4000 years old, cut from Hobbister Moor. The malted barley used is produced on its own estate, on heather-covered land. The whiskies were traditionally aged in Scottish oak casks, although fortunately, they had to abandon this technique as the casks were far too resinous. Highland Park whisky is shaped by the wild, harsh climate and the turbulent sea surrounding the Orkney Islands. Highland Park whisky is truly a concentrate of history.
