Colour: deep orange-copper.
Nose: rich, complex. Absolutely magnificent, the aromatic palette reveals red and black fruits, an apricot rancio of great purity of expression, aromas of leather, polish, sweet spices.
Mouth: lively, tense. Overflowing with vitality, the attack on the palate is, at first, spicy, oriental and finely liquoricey. In the mid-palate, a delicious malty bitterness brings great smoothness to the taste palette. Divinely chocolaty, it lingers on with flavors of gingerbread and coffee cream of great distinction.
Finish: long, silky. At the start of the finish, dried fruits, prune, highlight the tertiary and autumnal character of this extraordinary Strathisla.
LHE DISTILLERY
The distillery was founded in 1786 by Georges Taylor and Alexandre Milne then called Milltown Distillery. Destroyed and rebuilt, it changed its name several times, to be called Strathisla. It is distinguished by the use of classic pot stills with small spherical compartments and large goosenecks. Bought by the Pernod-Ricard group in 2001, some of its distillates are used in the composition of the Chivas and Royal Salute blend.
