Appleton Estate Rare Casks 15 ans 43%

€64.50

Appleton 15 Year Black River Casks is an exceptional Jamaican rum, whose name pays homage to the Black River, an important symbol in the history of rum production in Jamaica. This river provides the essential water used in the production of all Appleton Estate rums. This spirit is a blend of distillates from both pot still and column still, all aged for at least 15 years. On the palate, it reveals notes of roasted almonds, hazelnuts, orange zest, vanilla, and toasted coffee beans, with a particularly persistent finish.

It is truly a rum to discover for connoisseurs seeking something exceptional.

Nose: In addition to the fruits and spices, there is also a pleasantly phenolic note, reminiscent of motor oil, a bit of shoe polish, and a touch of tar. It’s clear that we are in Jamaica. The richness of molasses immediately comes forward, accompanied by orange notes sprinkled with cloves, cinnamon, almonds, apricots, and plums.

Palate: Flavors of brown sugar reappear, along with a very pleasant orange curaçao, as well as guava and fresh ginger. On the sides, some salty hints—like fennel and coriander seeds—add great complexity. Then, green coffee beans, halva, black pepper, and toasted hazelnuts emerge. Overall, it’s soft, rich, and harmonious.

Finish: Long and well-dried, with notes of leather, polished wood, caramel, and dark chocolate shavings, leaving a warm and refined impression.

THE BRAND

The history of Appleton Estate begins around 1749 in southwest Jamaica called the Nassau Valley. It is a special environment where limestone formations, caves and underground springs abound. The crystalline water brings a special flavour to the sugarcane that grow in the valley. Today, more than 4500 hectares of canes are cultivated. The brand uses its own indigenous yeast and distils it on pot-still or columns, before aging its rum in old American oak barrels. The entire ballet is performed under the guidance of Master Assembler Joyce Spence, the first woman in spirits to have received this qualification. The distillery is known as Appleton but also as Wray & Nephew.
