The Different Types of Whiskies

Single malt, blended malt, blended whisky, bourbon, pure pot still, rye whiskey, grain whisky... Each of these types is distinguished by its unique production process, which influences its appearance and aromas. We present them briefly here to help you choose your favorite whisky.

  • Single Malt: This whisky is distilled at a single distillery, usually from malted barley.

  • Blended Malt: As the name suggests, this is a blend of several single malts from different distilleries.

  • Blended Whisky: This type results from mixing a grain whisky with a small amount of single malt.

  • Bourbon: A whisky made up of approximately 70% corn.

  • Pure Pot Still: A term used to refer to Irish whisky (single pot still) when it is made with an equal mixture of malted and unmalted barley (50/50).

  • Grain Whisky: This whisky is made from a blend of unmalted grains.
