Nose: At first, leather, prunes, redcurrants, and malted barley take the lead, followed by toasted oak aromas and hints of cinnamon, green apple, and black pepper. Subsequently, recognizable waves of smoke and red fruits emerge, accompanied by cereal notes of malt and porridge. The peat smoke is dry and enveloping, with a subtle hint of burnt heather and pipe tobacco from the oak.
Palate: The influence of European oak is undeniable, bringing a slight dryness balanced by the liveliness of woody spices, smoked oak, and roasted coffee. You will also discover the sweetness of barbecue notes and a touch of black pepper, complemented by a rich fruitcake and dried fruits. Adding a drop of water will reveal the smokiness and fruity sweetness from the wine casks, creating a beautiful balance with apple and pear notes that develop gradually during the tasting.
Final : The finish is characterized by smoky malt, toasted oak, and a slight hint of sea salt, while the characteristic earthy smoke of Octomore linger.
THE BRAND
Bruichladdich is a whisky distillery built in 1881 by three brothers. It is located on the Isle of Islay on the west coast of Scotland. It is one of nine distilleries on the Isle Islay, but Bruichladdich is to date the only distillery to produce, age and bottle its malt on the island. Following its purchase in 2000, the Bruichladdich distillery was very carefully renovated, they managed to save almost all the original material dating from the 19th century. Its single malt is only very slightly peated, with distinct marine origins, an iodized scent and a palate of salty flavours. This distillery produces two specially peated versions : Port Charlotte and Octomore.
