Octomore 14.3 61.4%
Octomore 14.3 is a whisky that embodies an extraordinary quest for flavors, blending intense peatiness with the diversity of local harvests from its homeland.
Islay barley, grown just three kilometers from the distillery on the Octomore farm, imparts a personality to this single malt that is rich in cereal character. It celebrates the profound impact of this raw and natural ingredient, as well as the revival of the farming community that cultivates it.
Under the guidance of the Master Distiller, Adam Hannett, the flavor of Islay barley is elevated in this exceptional single malt.
Nose: Aromas of warm and sweet wort are evident right away, followed closely by a mild and biscuity maltiness. Peat smoke emerges, accompanied by a sweet stone fruit medley, featuring ripe apricots, peaches, and pears drizzled with honey. Candied lemon peels introduce citrusy notes, balanced by hints of caramel, honey, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream.
Palate: On the palate, oak notes come forward first, followed closely by an intense presence of peat. Floral hints of gorse and honeysuckle rise above Islay barley malt, complementing the rich and creamy flavors of porridge and cereal. The combination of French oak structure, the smoothness of vanilla, and the caramel from American oak harmoniously balance the palate.
Finish: Malted barley and earthy peat dominate the finish, followed by persistent hints of barley sugar. Caramel and vanilla add a final touch of sweetness and roundness.
THE BRAND
Bruichladdich is a whisky distillery built in 1881 by three brothers. It is located on the Isle of Islay on the west coast of Scotland. It is one of nine distilleries on the Isle Islay, but Bruichladdich is to date the only distillery to produce, age and bottle its malt on the island. Following its purchase in 2000, the Bruichladdich distillery was very carefully renovated, they managed to save almost all the original material dating from the 19th century. Its single malt is only very slightly peated, with distinct marine origins, an iodized scent and a palate of salty flavours. This distillery produces two specially peated versions : Port Charlotte and Octomore.
