THE BRAND

It is to Elizabeth Cumming that we owe the current Cardhu distillery. In 1872 she had a new Cardow distillery built, which she enlarged in 1887 before selling it in 1893 to John Walker and Sons Ltd. The production capacity of the distillery is increased and 1980 Cardow becomes Cardhu. Very popular in Europe, its owners decided in the early 2000s to make it a blended malt, which provoked the wrath of amateurs and purists. Eventually Diageo returned to the initial formula, the Cardhu 12 Year Old, and has since expanded its range with a limited cask strength edition.

CARDHU

The Cardhu distillery was founded in 1824 by John and Helen Grant in Speyside. Initially illegal, it obtained a license in 1824 and quickly became known for its sweet and fruity whiskies. In 1893, it began legally marketing its whisky, and in 1898, it was acquired by John Walker & Sons, integrating its spirit into Johnnie Walker blends. Cardhu modernized its facilities while preserving traditional methods and continues to produce popular single malts, such as Cardhu 12 years. Today, it remains a symbol of quality in the Scotch whisky industry.
