KILCHOMAN Machir Bay 46%
As usual, the "farm distillery" of Islay offers us a version of its single malt not filtered cold and bottled in small cuvée. The 2013 edition of this Kilchoman Machir Bay comes from the blend of malts aged in bourbon barrels aged from 3 to 5 years, then matured several weeks in oloroso sherry cask.
Colour: Light and bright gold.
Nose: Sharp and precise on ashy and smoky notes
Taste: Peaty and fruity on candied citrus, malty barley and spices.
Finish: Long and smoky with notes of bold peat.
AWARDS
Silver Medal at the international Wine & Spirit Competition in 2013.
THE BRAND
KILCHOMAN was founded by Anthony Wills in June 2005. For more than 124 years a new distillery had not been born on the island of Islay on the west coast of Scotland. Supplied by the Port Ellen malting plant, it now makes a point of bringing about 20% of the barley grown on its own land. Certainly one of the smallest distilleries of the island, but already with a prestigious maturity.
As usual, the "farm distillery" of Islay offers us a version of its single malt not filtered cold and bottled in small cuvée. Iconic version of Kilchoman, Machir Bay, before being a whisky, is the name of a picturesque beach just steps from the distillery on the island of Islay. This single malt is a blend of whiskies having aged 80% in ex-bourbon barrels of first fill and 20% in Oloros sherry barrels
