Founded in 2013 and acquired in 2019 by independent bottler Douglas Laing, Strathearn is an artisan distillery located in Highland Perthshire, a region renowned for its distilling heritage. Strathearn is unique as the only distillery to exclusively use Maris Otter Extra Pale malted barley. This barley is mixed with Highland water in one of the country's few manually-operated brewing tuns, then fermented for 144 hours. This first bottling under the Douglas Laing era is a blend of bourbon, sherry, and new oak casks. Non-chill filtered and free from color additives, this single malt is presented in its most natural form.
Nose: Fresh and woody, with aromas of malted barley, fresh wood, and pear.
Palate: Sweet and indulgent, evoking honey, butter, and dried apricots.
Finish: Lingering and sweet, reminiscent of pastries, oats, and cinnamon.
Strathearn Distillery is Scotland's original artisan spirits distillery, founded in 2013 by Tony Reeman-Clark. It was a forerunner in the new wave of distilleries currently opening in Scotland. It took shape in 2013 with the arrival of two Hoga-type stills from Portugal, with capacities of 1000l and 500l. Keen to maintain artisanal craftsmanship, they manually transport their barley to one of Scotland's few manual brewing tuns. Yeast is added by hand, as is the filling of the casks. They are committed to distilling spirits of the highest quality with an innovative approach to create truly exceptional, handcrafted products made with passion and pride.
