Whisky NIKKA The Grain 48%
Nikka The Grain is the third chapter of the 'Discovery' collection created in 2021 in celebration of Nikka Whisky's 90th anniversary. This whisky is the result of blending grain whiskies from Miyagikyo, Nishinomiya (which ceased production in 1998), Moji, and Satsuma Tsukasa distilleries. Nikka The Grain is a subtle marriage of freshness and maturity, unveiling exceptional balance throughout the tasting experience. This deep harmony is the outcome of the flawless complementarity of the various distillates that make up this whisky.
Nose: Fresh and complex, with a harmonious blend of beeswax, aromatic herbs (verbena, chamomile), and fresh fruits (pineapple, mirabelle). It evolves towards notes of vanilla, lightly toasted, and cereal-like.
Palate: Both rich and graceful, it offers a creamy texture (almond and coconut milk) with hints of vanilla, dynamism, and licorice. A subtle touch of spices (cinnamon, ginger) on the finish.
Finish: Balanced and velvety, reminiscent of the cereals and aromatic herbs from the initial nose. Delicious flavors of mint, acacia honey, and heady flowers (gorse, mimosa) on the aftertaste.
THE BRAND
Born in 1894 into a family of sake producers, Masataka Taketsuru is considered the godfather of Japanese whisky. After training as a chemist, he was hired by the Settsu Shuzo company which sent him to Scotland in 1918 for an apprenticeship. He developed a passion for whisky and decided to devote his life to it. In 1934, he built Yoichi, his first distillery, on the island of Hokkaido. Its growing success enabled him to establish a second in 1969 near Sendai, Miyagikyo. It is from the single malts produced by these two distilleries that the Nikka whisky group produces its entire range of Japanese whiskies.
