Montebello Rhum Vieux agricole 7 ans single cask 2015 49,6%
The 2015 Montebello single cask old rum was aged for 7 years in bourbon barrels. No. 1009 is produced in the purest tradition of old MONTEBELLO agricultural rums. This rum does honor to the cane production of the island by integrating three of the most present varieties: yellow, red and blue canes harvested on the mountainous reliefs of the north of Basse Terre. It retains all its aromatic power because no reduction has been made. It was published in only 314 copies.
Nose: Aromas of caramelized apple pie, with notes of calvados mixed with acacia honey.
Mouth: Supple, balanced with aromas of spices and brioche.
THE BRAND
The Montebello artisanal distillery was founded in 1930, it was also called the Carrère distillery at that time, the name of the hamlet where it is located, nestled in the first reliefs of the Petit-Bourg plain in Guadeloupe. Taken over in 1966 by the Marsolle family, it is now the fourth generation that operates.
The distillery is proud to ensure that more than 90% of its production comes from canes collected by hand from small farmers around its place of production, canes benefiting neither from inputs nor phytosanitary.
The distillery is one of the last in the Caribbean to use a steam boiler, and in addition it is part of the island's historical heritage. It is equipped with 2 distillation columns, one in copper, the other in stainless steel. After a mandatory rest in vats for several months, the rum is slowly reduced with filtered water from, among other sources, a source close to the distillery (ravine de la soufrière).
The Montebello distillery was one of the first distilleries to have had the idea of old rums.
