GlenAllachie 16 year old - 50th - Billy Walker -Present Edition 48%
Glenallachie 16 Year Old Present Edition is the second in the series following the past to celebrate the half-century career of master distiller Billy Walker. This rare expression illustrates the present of the master, where he avidly implements an incredibly innovative barrel management policy. After an initial maturation in PX and Sherry Oloroso casks, the single malt benefited from a secondary aging in casks of specially selected Mizunara, a very rare and expensive species of Japanese oak. this expression is resolutely oriented towards complex notes of sandalwood and cinnamon.
Nose: Bursting with dark chocolate, heather honey and toasted almonds, with notes of sandalwood, ginger, orange zest, caramelized pecans and coconut flakes.
Palate: Waves of heather honey, cinnamon and crystallized ginger, followed by demerara sugar, dried black berries, hazelnuts and fig syrup.
Finish: Long, intense, rich.
In 1967, the Glenallachie Distillery was the fourth distillery designed by William-Delme Evans and built by Mackinlay McPherson. In 2017 Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson purchased the distillery bringing a 100 years of knowledge and expertise to the industry. The water for the distillery comes from dam heads located 2 miles from the distillery. As one of the few independent distilleries in Scotland, it was crowned the winner of the Scottish Distillery of the Year award in 2019 at the Scottish Whisky Awards.
