ARDBEG 25 year - Batch 3 - Edition 2022 46 %
The Ardbeg 25-year-old Batch 3 single malt is now the distillery's oldest whiskey. It was bottled from rather rare barrels from the darkest days of the distillery. It is expression in its most complex, balanced and seductive form. The aromatic palette is explosive with its cream of smoke, scented candle wax, its notes of carbolic soaps, tar. The spice rises in the mouth to combine with the sweetness of the lemon sorbet. It is presented in a superb box. An emblematic cuvée which is in a limited series.
Nose: A zesty explosion of smoky cream, peppermint and toffee, with classic Ardbeg fennel and pine resin. Distant earthy bonfires mingle with herbal and fruity notes (banana and tropical), as well as candle wax
Palate: Peppery, then the sweetness of lemon sorbet, candied apples, pears, the pastry side, smoke, hot tar.
Finish: Long, soft, persistent, creamy caramel, and the elegant and soothing side of Ardbeg.
THE BRAND
Founded in 1815 by John Macdougall, the Ardbeg distillery experienced a first period of closure between 1981 and 1989 and again in 1996, it reopened its doors a year later in 1997. In 2004, to the delight of its many aficionados, a first bottling of Ardbeg Very Young (only 6 years old) brought this legendary single malt from the Isle of Islay into a new era. The Ardbeg distillery produces some of the most peated single malts in Scotland. In the past, the lack of ventilation in the malt drying ovens retained the peat smoke, thus explaining the very peated character of its single malt. Ardbeg single malts combine charming rusticity, great finesse and a richness of expression worthy of the title “best peated whiskies”.
