Cheval Bondieu is an agricultural rum distilled by A1710 from fresh canes and rested in wooden barrels. It is a blended from rums that have aged from 18 to 36 months in French and American oak barrels.
Cheval bondieu or "chouval bondié" to the natives, is a type of stick insect, a legendary and emblematic animal In Martinican culture. It is characterized by its lightness, its delicacy as well as its barky and woody exterior. Characteristics reflected in this edition.
It won the Top Rum Silver at the 2021 World Spirit Awards.
Nose : Expressive and round with fruity and sugar cane aromas, before evolving into scents of honey and gingerbread.
Palate : Frank attack, then fruit flavors such as blackcurrant, then coffee and vanilla.
Finish : Nice length, sweet and powerful, with woody notes and sweet spices.
A1710 is a relatively new distillery on the island of Martinique in the commune of François. In 2010, Yves Assier de Pompignan, encouraged by his father (founder of the Technical Center for Cane and Sugar, Martinique), embarked on the construction of a white rum distillery. What drives the A1710 distillery is the search for authenticity. They remain faithful to Martinique’s sugar and rum history, by highlighting all the nobility of manual labour.
In 2016, A1710 rums obtained their ECOCERT certificate.
Cheval Bondieu is the very first aged rum from the A1710 distillery.
