CARDHU Amber Rock 40%
Cardhu Amber Rock is an ageless single malt whiskey aged in bourbon-cured American oak barrels. With notes of citrus fruits, honey and sweet spices, Amber Rock is the fruit of a completely successful mastery of aging and blending.
Nose: Sweet, exotic notes of lychee and pear then malt and caramel, honey and barley sugar.
Palate: Round, spicy with notes of apples, marinated pears, then toasted oak, milk chocolate, vanilla.
Finish: Long and unctuous.
It is to Elizabeth Cumming that we owe the current Cardhu distillery. In 1872 she had a new Cardow distillery built, which she enlarged in 1887 before selling it in 1893 to John Walker and Sons Ltd. The production capacity of the distillery is increased and 1980 Cardow becomes Cardhu. Very popular in Europe, its owners decided in the early 2000s to make it a blended malt, which provoked the wrath of amateurs and purists. Eventually Diageo returned to the initial formula, the Cardhu 12 Year Old, and has since expanded its range with a limited cask strength edition.
