Hakushu Distiller’s Reserve in its ageless version is the fruit of the marriage of young spirits slightly peaty to others more mature and very peaty. The recipe for this single malt is based on three ingredients: first, young whiskies aged less than 10 years, aged in bourbon barrels and slightly peated, chosen for their pure and refreshing aromas. Then, an old whisky aged in American white oak barrels for more than 18 years, in order to bring corpulence and complexity. Finally, a young heavily peated whisky, aged about 12 years in bourbon barrels, to bring a hint of smoke. Bottled at 43% vol. , Hakushu Distiller’s Reserve also contains some whiskies aged in sherry barrels to respect the distillery tradition and give subtlety to this single malt.
THE BRAND
In 1973, exactly 50 years after the start of whisky production in Japan, Suntory’s second malt whisky distillery was finally opened in Hakushu. The natural underground water that has crossed the mountains of the Southern Alps for many years is fresh and fresh water that contains just the right amount of minerals. The type is different from Yamazaki’s original sake.
