The single malt PENDERYN Hiraeth is the latest version of the Icon of Wales series of the distillery. It was aged in old bourbon barrels and STR barrels. It is on a complex single malt marked by aromas of honeyed fruits and spices. It is elegant, sweet, delicate and very surprising.
Nose: Elegant and floral with light notes of oak, vanilla, sultanas, toffee apples, citrus zest and a hint of lime.
Taste: Sweet and delicate with honeyed fruits, vanilla, cinnamon spices and a hint of nutmeg.
Finish: Sweet with honey and vanilla that fade towards a malty finish.
Distillation was a lost art in Wales. In 2004, on the day of Saint David, a group of friends started production again in a distillery set up on the foothills of the Brecon National Park. The village of Penderyn was chosen because of the site’s supply of Fraîche natural spring water. With a copper still designed by Dr David Faraday, the distillery has progressed rapidly to acquire an international reputation. A second distillery was installed in Llandudno in northern Wales in May 2021 and another is in Swansea in southern Wales in 2022.
