CAOL ILA 8 YO 2015 Hogshead - Signatory Vintage 40%
CAOL ILA 8 Year Old 2015 is highly valued by fans of peated whiskies. Although slightly influenced by aging in bourbon barrels, it displays an oily, smoky, and iodine-rich profile, enhanced with notes of coal, camphor, and salted candied lemons. Reduced to 40%, without cold filtration or added coloring, it offers a rich and highly aromatic profile with a slightly cloudy appearance. The single malts from the Caol Ila distillery, located on Islay, are greatly appreciated by independent bottlers for their distinctive character and versatility, significantly contributing to their reputation.
Nose: Smoky and ashy, with notes of coal, menthol, malted barley, citrus, licorice, and earthy undertones.
Palate: Oily texture with pronounced peaty flavors. Tar, salted candied lemons, camphor, linseed oil, and white fruits.
Finish: Long, balanced, peat, honey, mineral, saline.
THE BRAND
Founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, the Caol Ila Distillery is the largest producer of whisky on the Isle of Islay, capable of producing up to 7 million liters of alcohol in just one week. To produce and develop this Caol Ila single malt, the barley is always malted on the island, in Port Ellen, and the spring water used comes from a source upstream of the distillery infiltrating through the limestone to then flows into Loch nam Bonnach, thus respecting the ancestral tradition of the distillery.
