CARONI

The Caroni distillery started operating in 1918 and was the state distillery of Trinidad, until it was closed by government order in 2002. It had its own sugar refinery to ensure its supply of local sugar cane. The distillery produced heavy rums with a unique style and was remarkable for its famous petroleum notes. When the doors of the distillery closed, the last bottles in circulation saw their value increase. These are now sought after by collectors around the world.
